Accessories Compatible with the studystation™

Since the Sentinel StudyStation is a desktop system, external peripherals are necessary. A 1080p monitor/display, keyboard and mouse are minimally required. A Document Camera/Webcam, printers and XBOX controllers are common options. In addition, there are many other devices that are compatible with the StudyStation such as MIDI controllers/keyboards, graphic drawing tablets and game controllers,

Monitors/Displays

This system requires at least one display capable of high definition resolutions of both 1080p and 720p and We recommend displays of 20” or greater. There are a number of products available directly from Amazon that are very inexpensive and have received great reviews. One of the brands is Sceptre because these monitors all include built-in speakers (although not great) and a headphone jack thus eliminating the need for the optional USB HD Audio Adapter. They are directly available for purchase on Amazon.

Keyboard / Mice Combinations

While virtually all keyboards and mice are compatible with the StudyStation, we have had great experience with Logitech products. The following are great options that we highly recommend, They are inexpensive and will work well with the StudyStation. Choosing a wireless keyboard/mouse combination will have the advantage of saving one of the USB 2.0 ports and eliminating some wires on the desk. The disadvantage is that the batteries may need to be changed every year or two. Check out the products listed below:

Just a note: special purpose/feature keys such as volume up/down, power, home that are not universal will not work with the StudyStation. These are intended for Microsoft Windows systems. The rest of the keys should work fine.

Document Camera / Webcam

Since the StudyStation does not have an integrated camera and microphone, we recommend using a combination Document Camera / Webcam. This will allow its use for both capturing document images (not requiring a phone with a camera) for easy upload for school assignments as well as use in videoconferencing applications. Wired / Wireless Printers

The Sentinel StudyStation supports Linux printing services and therefore only printers supporting this protocol are compatible. Fortunately, many of the newer printers, in particular Brother, support this protocol. There should be no setup or driver installation required if a driver exists. To see if the printer is available, the user can simply go to LibreOffice Word Processor and type a little text and then test to see if a printer is available to print and then print that page.

Wired XBOX Controllers

The StudyStation XBOX Cloud Gaming modes require a wired USB XBOX Controller to operate. Here are some low cost options:

KVM HDMI Switches

If the StudyStation is being used with an existing computer or gaming console and keyboard, mouse and display are to be shared, these low cost devices can do the trick. Note that the switch must always be set to the StudyStation when powering on the StudyStation. Use of this type of product requires a MicroHDMI male to HDMI Female Cable adapter. Do not use a pure adapter as it might interfere with the power jack.
